I put together a process gif for a project from earlier this year. This job came with a slew of requirements, but also left itself wide open for interpretation! It was a lot of fun. The final and some detail close-ups can be found here.
Owl Magazine Memory Puzzle
I had the opportunity this summer to work with Owl on a neat memory puzzle illustration! ADs Susan Sinclair and Kim Cooper were great to work with on this image for the September 2014 re-designed/relaunch issue of Owl.
Bonus: the image shares a spread with astronaut Chris Hadfield!
Below is a process gallery from initial sketch to full pencils, inked linework, and final colour. I had a lot of fun adding silly details as the image developed!
Misc June 2014
It's been a great few months for many reasons, not the least of which being Nina and I's engagement! I'd painted a set of nesting dolls and presented them, with a ring on the crown of the smallest doll. She happily said Yes :)
World Pride is taking place in Toronto this year, and our friend Yury Ruzhyev is performing his incredible one-man Cabaret show during the festivities. I worked with him to create some promos. Looking forward to the show!
In May I had the opportunity to work on a VERY tight turnaround for the Wall Street Journal. The subject was regulations in place to reduce instances of individuals 'double-dipping' in American pension plans.
I've completed some illustrations that won't be published until August/Sept -- here is a sneak peak until then.
